Usually when you hear of a sexually transmitted disease you get a chill that runs up your spine. The idea of having something such as that doesn't sit well with most people. What is worse for many is the idea of having public lice AKA crabs. However, individuals usually have no idea much about this STD besides the fact that you will find creepy crawlies near your genitals. So, let's take a closer look at Crabs.
Crabs, or Pubic lice are small, wingless insects most often found in the genital area of humans. When a person is infested

with lice (whether it is pubic lice, head lice, or body lice), the condition is known as pediculosis. An infestation with pubic lice is termed pediculosis pubis. Contrary to popular belief, crabs are not the same thing as head lice. Lice on the hair and head are caused by an infestation with a parasite known as Pediculus humanus capitis. So, even though they are similar, they are NOT the same.
Pubic lice or Crabs can be spread by a number of ways, but they're usually spread through sexual contact. Because of this, it is considered a sexually transmitted disease (STD). In rare cases, infestation can be spread via contact with an infested person's bed linens, towels, or clothes. Infection in a young child or teenager may indicate sexual activity or sexual abuse. Furthermore, as many people believe for many unusual reason, animals do not get or spread pubic lice. So we can no longer believe the myth that your animal is the one distributing the infestation!
Crabs are completely curable, which should give peace of mind to those of who are creeped out by just the mere mentioning of pubic lice. For most people, treatment for pubic lice involves medications that are available over the counter. These medications are generally effective, as long as the person follows the directions on the bottle or their healthcare provider's directions exactly.
So, if you think for whatever reason that you may have somehow are exposed to somebody who has Crabs, or possibly you shared things such as a bed, clothes or even a towel, and you have your suspicions, then go get examined as quickly as possible. As we mentioned, they are easily disposed of, but you are the one who has to be responsible for them and cope with this STD.
