They are certainly not the most glamorous STD, but it is one that can be picked up without even having sex. You can get crabs by sexual contact, but also by using infected towels, toilet seats, bedding and clothing, in fact anything that would have had close contact with an infected person.
Unfortunately, crabs are highly contagious and can move from one hairy area to another, even your eye lashes. One way to avoid them is to make sure you have good personal hygiene, and make sure that your clothes and bedding are clean. You should also make sure you're aware if the person
you're sleeping with has them. They might not be willing to own up to it, but the constant scratching might give you a clue.
How do you know if you have crabs? The itching should be a big giveaway, but you might also be able to see them. You might also have blood on your underwear if they get under the skin.
