Crabbing Pots - A Complete Guide to Crabbing

How To Pull Up A Crab Pot

the first thing you need to pull up a crab pot is a nice pair of heavy duty gloves. without gloves you'll be sure to blister your hands. i prefer the elbow grease method of pulling crab pots; however, pot pullers are easy to use and allow more pots to be pulled in shorter amount of time. if you aren't using a pot puller i would highly recommend having another person loop the slack rope. when the pot is pulled secure the wound rope and buoy to the outside of the crab pot with a piece of loose string. this will prevent the pot rope from getting tangled on the next

launch. once all crabs are removed from the pot, don't forget to reload crab bait, secure all bait doors, and reset crab hatch doors before dropping the pot again. failure to do so will likely result in a small or empty next catch. remember, pots that are heavy to pull means either lots of crab or a bunch of junky seaweed wrapped around a star fish.
