Hermit Crab Care Lesson 1 - Healthy Hermit Crab
Author: John Brody
Whether you already are the proud keepers of hermit crabs or only considering a foray into the delightful world of this quirky animal, you're sure to learn some tips, tricks and techniques that provide you with the insight you need to make your crab feel relaxed, at ease, happy and ultimately healthy. We'll give you more vital information on crabs so you not only understand more about their behavior, but more about exactly who they are. In this way you can provide your pet with the best possible home.
The first secret I'm revealing today is that the

animal you may be considering adopting is neither a hermit nor a crab! It's true. He's one of Mother Nature's unique creations. And you probably know of him because he carries that snail shell on his back where ever he roams. But even though everyone has heard of this little guy, few know that the animal you have either adopted or considering adopting is really not a hermit at all. He is, in fact, a delightfully social creature, enjoying the company of not only others of his species. And if you give him the chance, he'll also enjoy interaction with you as well!
And technically, your hermit crab isn't even a crab! Crabs, by definition, have hard abdomens. Hermit crabs don't. They possess soft undersides which are vulnerable to attacks. And that in and of itself explains the need for their shell house! It protects them from the many predators who would like nothing more than to snag themselves a crab dinner!
